Outline

While many companies have a standard of ethics or code of ethics, these ethical behaviors are usually aimed at the workers. Not every code of ethics makes it clear that the management, especially those in top positions, must also conform to the code established. When we read the news or put ethical violations into a search engine it will bring up many examples where management did not conform to their company code of ethics. This paper will examine the inclusion of management into the process of building and enforcing a code of ethics. It will also provide answers to questions such as did the management think they were exempt, should the code be more specific to include management, who should review and follow through the discipline when management is involved in ethical behaviors contrary to the company standards, how will they be implemented and the roles human resources will have. It will also address the company’s ethical standards, what is expected from every employee which includes: good communication, honesty and integrity, fair conduct, compliance with rules and regulations, obeying all applicable laws, reporting violations and competence.
